My Daily Prayer

Today, may I once again take the radical gospel journey.

May I start from my own unique beginning,

May I journey in my own unique style,

May I pursue my own unique goals.

May I take this journey with no doubt or apology.

May I find no need to imitate my brothers, my sisters, my mother or my father.

Give to me immense courage and self-possession.

Give to me a life for others.

May I not push, intimidate, or play power games common to others,

But may I possess my power with surety and calm self-confidence.
May I not be opinionated or arrogant,

But may I know.

May I not need status symbols,

But may I draw my identity from God and from within.

May I not need my name on everything,

But may my identity be settled and secure.
May I possess my soul,

And not give it lightly to corporations, armies, nation-states,

Or acceptable, collective thinking.

May I be beyond red and blue politics.

May I, quite simply, be whole.

May I trust my soul,

For I have come to know you God,

And now I call you "My Father."

Continue to teach me about anger, passion, power, and clarity.

Cause me to go all the way through and pay the price for it.

Share with me your own creative seed, your own decisive word,

And your own illuminating Spirit.

May I be comfortable knowing, and comfortable not knowing.

Allow me to care and not care – without guilt or shame.

May I act without success, and may I name my fear of failure.

May I not need to affirm or deny, judge, or ignore.

But may I be free to do all of them with impunity.

Today, through your power Oh God, may my soul be invincible.
